Microsoft Teams at Belmont University

Belmont University provides all student, adjunct and faculty/staff with Microsoft Office 365 accounts with access to the Microsoft Teams App for collaboration. There are many benefits to Microsoft Teams as a unified communication and collaboration hub for you and the people you work with. Adopting the Microsoft Teams application into your daily work can help you centralize your communication, collaboration and workflow into one place.

Using Microsoft Teams

  • Chat & Group Chat
    Chat one on one with a co-worker or group of co-workers with a quick, simple to use interface right inside the Teams App. Group Chats can be used instead of a Team for a quick project and still utilize many of the features of a formal Team such as file sharing and group meetings.
  • Video Calls
    Make calls directly from a chat with Microsoft Teams. You can choose Video or Audio before making your call. This feature allows you to break out with you co-workers and projects fast right in the app. Learn more about Video calls, Audio calls, and chat
  • Meetings
    Work collaboratively by scheduling meetings with Microsoft Teams. Full featured meetings with chats, screen sharing and video that can be scheduled from within the app or even from Outlook.

Faculty & Staff: Creating and Using Teams
At Belmont University, faculty and staff have the need to collaborate with others in many situations. Group Chats in Microsoft Teams are the most effective option for students to collaborate. Group Chat allows for powerful communication, chats, meetings, video calls and file sharing without creating a Team. Belmont University does not allow students to create full on Teams, unless they are for an approved student organization and have a Belmont Staff or Faculty sponsor.

Students: Creating and Using Group Chats in Teams
At Belmont University, students have the need to collaborate with others in many situations such as class projects, class assignments, or campus activities. Group Chats in Microsoft Teams are the most effective option for students to collaborate. Group Chat allows for powerful communication, chats, meetings, video calls and file sharing without creating a Team. Belmont University does not allow students to create full on Teams, unless they are for an approved student organization and have a Belmont Staff or Faculty sponsor.

Team Types:

Teams Collaboration IconDepartment: Intended for perpetual Teams and Departments at Belmont with only Belmont users

Teams Project IconProject: intended for Teams that as associated with a specific task that have an end date. Project membership is limited to Belmont University users.

Teams External IconExternal Project: is the same as Project above, except that it allows membership from anyone. Example: A Belmont IT project that requires collaboration with an outside vendor.

Adding Channels to an Existing Team
Teams are made up of channels, which are the conversations you have with your teammates. Channels sit inside of teams, similar to how files sit inside folders. Each channel is dedicated to a specific topic, department, or project. Learn more about Channels

    Files can be shared and stored in a Team so everyone can work together to meet a deadline.

  • Notes with OneNote
    OneNote is a great way to collaborate with your Microsoft Team. Add to Teams for the ability to add notes quickly while in a meeting, or anytime you need to make changes or additions.
  • Scheduling (Shifts)
    With Shifts for Teams you can create, update, and manage shifts right in Teams, from anywhere, on any device. You can create a schedule from scratch or by connecting to your workforce management system.
  • Bookings
    Bookings From Microsoft can help avoid going back and forth with emails to find availability. Bookings app can be added or pinned in the ‘Apps’ icon on the left panel of Teams.
  • Calendar
    You can view your schedule at a glance, make changes, and stay on top of your workday with the Calendar app. Pin Calendar to your sidebar in Teams so it’s quick to access.
  • Updates
    A great app to keep yourself on track with projects. Share updates with others with quick templates. Create your own requests for updates to keep informed of your team’s progress in one easy to use and organized place. Streamline the update process with Updates for Teams.
