If you're into music, you'll be right at home in Nashville–the music scene is thriving and there are concerts all the time. There are live concerts happening every night, and you can find everything from country to rock to blues. If you're looking for a relaxed evening, grab a bite at one of the many great restaurants at Assembly Food Hall (which is also host to a variety of eclectic music performances) and then head to a show at the Ryman Auditorium. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, check out a songwriter’s night at the Bluebird Cafe. Catch a classical Sunday matinee at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. In addition, Belmont’s Fisher Center is a new venue on campus hosting a variety of arts, dance and music shows.
If you're a fan of professional sports, there's plenty to keep you busy in Nashville. NFL’s Tennessee Titans, the NHL Nashville Predators and Minor League Baseball Nashville Sounds all play home games within four miles of campus. The Predators are one of the top hockey teams in the NHL and regularly sell out their home games at Bridgestone Arena. The Tennessee Titans are also a popular team, playing their home games at Nissan Stadium. And if you're a soccer fan, you can't miss the MLS’s Nashville Soccer Club (also within four miles of campus) which plays its home matches at Geodis Park, where you can enjoy appearances by “ Soccer Moses.”
Nashville is fortunate to have lots of parks and green spaces, perfect for a sunny day or a weekend afternoon. Some of the best parks in Nashville are just across the river in East Nashville, including East Park and Shelby Bottoms Greenway. South on I-65 is the perennial favorite Radnor Lake, where you can spot nesting eagles and take your pup for a stroll. The Warner Parks are on the west side of town and offer miles of hiking trails as well as a golf course and an amazing wildflower display in the spring. Closer to downtown is Centennial Park, a perfect place to reading a good book in green grass under the shade of the Parthenon.
There are many houses of worship in Nashville, and each one offers something unique to the spiritual life of the city. In fact, there are over 700 houses of worship in the city, representing a wide range of denominations. From the grandiose churches downtown to the small community chapels in the suburbs, there is a place of worship for everyone. The Christian churches in Nashville are some of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the city, and they play an important role in the spiritual life of the community. Nashville is also home to a number of synagogues, mosques and temples.
Many of these churches offer Sunday school classes, youth groups and other programs that help to foster a sense of community and fellowship. In addition, they are often active in social justice work, providing a much-needed voice in the fight for equality and fairness.
