The Power of 10 - Celebrate 10 Years of CSM

College of Sciences & Mathematics 10 year anniversary sealBelmont University’s College of Sciences & Mathematics (CSM) is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with "The Power of 10," featuring a series of monthly events from August 2024 to May 2025 designed for students, faculty, staff and alumni to engage with one another and foster a sense of community within the CSM family. These include trivia nights, lectures, research symposiums, and a community service day. The college, established in 2014, now offers 14 majors and emphasizes undergraduate research with faculty. The celebration will culminate in a closing ceremony and graduation.

CSM has made significant strides in its first decade, expanding opportunities for students through hands-on learning and research. The college fosters partnerships with organizations like the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Nashville’s STEM initiatives, providing students with real-world experience. Vaughn Science Lecture

On Thursday, October 24th, we were excited to host Dr. Cassie Mae Argenbright, a Postdoctoral Research Associate at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, present her talk titled "From Bench to Bedside: Translating Pain Research into Clinical Precision Medicine." Drawing from extensive research in both preclinical models and clinical investigations, Dr. Cassie Mae Argenbright presented her work on multidimensional pain phenotyping, focusing on her journey from preclinical nociplastic pain models to application in complimentary/alternative medicine and adult survivors of pediatric cancer. The discussion covered the biological mechanisms underlying chronic pain and its comorbidities, including disruptions in affect and cognition. By bridging the gap between experimental psychology and clinical investigations, this talk highlighted innovative approaches to personalized pain management, offering insights into how laboratory and behavioral discoveries can inform and enhance precision medicine in clinical settings.
