From Nashville to Los Angeles: How Belmont's music business program shaped Miranda Weik’s entertainment career
From selecting soundtrack music for "Fuller House" to supervising the score for "Bob Hearts Abishola," Miranda Weik has built an impressive career bringing music to life on hit television shows. The 2013 Belmont University graduate now works on high-profile Dolly Parton projects and other major productions as a Music Manager at Warner Bros. Television.
In the video above, Weik shares how discovering her passion for music supervision transformed her career from uncertain beginnings to industry success.
Finding Her Musical Path
"I always found my music from listening to soundtracks growing up. I watched a lot of television, a lot of movies, and so it was kind of like a very eye-opening moment for me," said Weik, whose journey in music supervision began with an internship that "just clicked."
That pivotal internship came through Belmont West, Belmont’s Los Angeles program offering students semester-long industry experiences while continuing their studies.
"Without Belmont West, I would not have been able to intern with the supervisor, Alex Patzavas, at her company, Chop Shop Music Supervision," said Weik. "That really started my career out here in Los Angeles, and helped me ultimately land at Warner Brothers as a music supervisor."
Building a Hollywood Career
With more than a decade of industry experience, Weik has built an impressive portfolio spanning popular network shows and streaming content. A quick glance at her LinkedIn profile shows her steady rise from intern to music coordinator to her current management position at Warner Bros. Discovery, where she's been for over 10 years.
"Looking back, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my career, with my music business degree," said Weik. "I think Belmont really prepared us in the sense of giving us different curriculum to study, to gain a little bit of experience in each thing, see where we kind of found some interests and what excited us the most."
The Belmont Advantage
Belmont's Music Business program, which Billboard regularly ranks among the top music business schools in the world, offers both undergraduate and adult degree options. The program combines creative and artistic aspects of the music and entertainment industry with business fundamentals.
Located just one block from Nashville's famous Music Row, Belmont's prime location gives students unparalleled access to music industry leaders. Through programs like Belmont West in Los Angeles, Belmont East in New York City, and other Belmont USA locations, students can expand their professional networks beyond Nashville.
Mentoring the Next Generation
Now an established industry professional, Weik focuses on mentoring the next generation.
"Being in the position that I'm in, I really look forward to helping the students who are interested in this career figure out if it's right for them," said Weik. "If you go into Belmont with the greatest intentions of learning everything and taking advantage of all that Belmont has to offer, there's no way you can't succeed."
