As organizations increasingly rely on artificial intelligence and data science, universities must evolve their approach to education and research. Situated in one of the nation's fastest-growing tech hubs, Belmont is uniquely positioned to leverage regional strengths in health care innovation and entrepreneurship. From 2017 to 2022, tech jobs in Middle Tennessee grew by 17%, surpassing overall job growth in the region by 7%.

This dynamic growth, combined with AI-related industries contributing more than $15 trillion to the global economy in 2023, underscores the importance of Belmont's expanded initiative in AI and data science. The University is adapting to meet community needs by preparing graduates to lead responsibly in this rapidly changing landscape.

“At Belmont, we are empowering students to lead in a world where data and artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing how we work and solve problems," said Dr. Erich Baker, vice provost for research & strategic initiatives and professor of computer science. "Our graduates will not just understand these technologies; they'll know how to harness them responsibly to drive innovation and create positive change.”

The Collaborative will serve as Belmont's central hub for data and AI education, leading a comprehensive university-wide strategy that combines research partnerships, industry collaboration and initiatives in digital innovation and transformation.
