In a remarkable achievement, Nancy Henin, a final-year Belmont pharmacy student originally from Alexandria, Egypt, has been awarded the highly competitive Dr. Samuel H. Kalman Scholarship. This prestigious accolade, given annually to just one deserving student by the APhA Foundation, recognizes Henin's exceptional involvement in the Belmont APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter, her leadership roles, community service, and academic excellence.
Henin’s journey in pharmacy began with her fascination for the field's diverse career pathways and its emphasis on patient care and interdisciplinary teamwork. After completing her undergraduate studies through Belmont's Pre-Pharmacy Early Assurance program — a path also followed by her sister, one of her role models — Henin has continually excelled in both her scholarly work and in various student organizations.
Over her three years with the APhA-ASP chapter at Belmont, Henin engaged deeply in leadership opportunities, policy advocacy, and patient care initiatives. These experiences not only honed her skills but also illuminated the benefits of membership, including opportunities like the Dr. Samuel H. Kalman Scholarship.
Receiving this scholarship is a testament to Henin’s dedication and hard work, earning her accolades from faculty and peers alike. Dr. Traci Poole, one of Henin’s professors, expressed immense pride in her contributions and excitement to celebrate her at the annual meeting in March.
“I am beyond proud of what Nancy has contributed to both our local APhA-ASP chapter — as well as what she’s accomplished regionally and nationally,” said Poole. “I couldn’t be more thrilled that she was recognized for her efforts with this very competitive and prestigious national scholarship.”
Currently focused on internal medicine and ambulatory care, Henin envisions a future rich in academia and clinical research, aiming to contribute significantly to the advancement of pharmacy practice. Her ambitions also include leadership roles in pharmacy organizations like APhA to advocate for the profession.
Henin exemplifies a leader of purpose and character, with a transformational mindset and a passion for making a positive impact in the world. Her achievement in winning the Dr. Samuel H. Kalman Scholarship is not only a personal milestone but also an inspiration for her peers and future pharmacy students.
