Former Pharmacy Fellow Brings Wealth of Experience Back to Belmont
Dr. John Maneno, a former pharmacy fellow in Belmont’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, has rejoined the institution in an exciting new capacity as the HealthTrust Director of Clinical Information at the Christy Houston Foundation Drug Information Center at Belmont University. This appointment marks a homecoming for Maneno, who previously completed his two-year drug information fellowship with Belmont and Aegis Sciences Corporation from 2019 to 2021.
After his fellowship, Maneno gained valuable experience in various roles, including developing content for Micromedex at Merative (formerly IBM Watson), contributing patient education materials for GoodRx and serving as the Medical Information Manager at TruLite Health, a health care technology startup focused on health equity solutions.
"The opportunity to return to Belmont is one that I could not pass up," Maneno said. "In this new role with Belmont and HealthTrust I can apply the skills and knowledge I gained during my fellowship program and throughout my career since then. Not only will I be collaborating with former colleagues, but I'll also have the opportunity to build upon the existing pharmacy fellowship program and further strengthen the collaborative partnership between Belmont and HealthTrust."
In his new position, Maneno will leverage his expertise in drug information to research and provide solutions to complex health care questions, ultimately enhancing patient care and outcomes.
"My goal is to ensure that each student that I interact with leaves Belmont feeling empowered to tackle complex community challenges of this world, regardless of their chosen career path in pharmacy," said Maneno. “As for my fellow faculty members, my hope is that through collaboration, teaching and mentoring, we can inspire students to have an interest in clinical pharmacy and drug information to help solve some of the complex problems in health care.”
Beyond his professional endeavors, Maneno is actively involved in mentorship programs, serving as a mentor with the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), Pharmacy Initiative Leaders (PILs) and Young Black Pharma (YBP). He also enjoys participating in recreational sports, hiking, running with the 6run5 Nashville Running Club and traveling with his camera and drone.
With his diverse background and passion for clinical pharmacy and drug information, Maneno's return to Belmont promises to enrich the institution's drug information resources and inspire students and faculty alike.
