Lumos Travel Award: Empowering Students to Become Global Citizens

October 10, 2024 | by Nolan Galbreath

Alumni gain life-changing experiences through international service, cultural immersion

Whether it is distributing small loans in Senegal, helping parentless children in Romania or teaching English in Guatemala, the Lumos Travel Award has been opening doors to extraordinary opportunities for Belmont alumni. Lumos empowers recipients to immerse themselves in diverse cultures, tackle real-world challenges and broaden their horizons in ways that traditional education rarely can.

Shaping the Next Generation of Global Citizens

The Lumos Travel Award offers an opportunity for young adults ages 20-26 to embark on a self-designed international working adventure. The award enables recipients to explore and engage with communities across the globe for a minimum of four months with the primary goal of deepening their understanding of an issue, project or idea that ignites their passion.

In an increasingly interconnected world, the Lumos Travel Award helps shape the next generation of global citizens. By providing young adults with the means to experience diverse cultures and tackle real-world challenges, the award:

  • Expands participants’ worldviews and cultural understanding
  • Develops confidence, resilience and resourcefulness
  • Challenges recipients to step outside their comfort zones and adapt to new environments and new people
  • Encourages the application of education and skills in unfamiliar settings
  • Facilitates relationship-building across cultural boundaries
