Later deadline gives families more flexibility during challenging FAFSA year
Belmont University today announced the extension of its enrollment deposit deadline to June 1, 2024 — or until the class reaches capacity — for new, first-year incoming students and their families experiencing delays around federal financial aid applications.
Significant backlogs and processing issues with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) this year have left many families unable to make fully informed college decisions by the traditional May 1 deadline.
"We recognize the tremendous stress and difficulties prospective students and their families are facing in trying to make informed decisions amid widespread delays," said Chris Gage, vice president for enrollment services at Belmont. "Extending our deposit deadline to June 1 allows families more time to confidently review aid packages and make the best decision for their situation without feeling rushed."
Gage encourages students who know that Belmont is their final choice to pay their enrollment deposit now to secure their spot in the class and initiate the housing process.
Charles Harper, director of student financial services, acknowledged the frustrations around the FAFSA challenges and urged admitted students not to get discouraged.
"Our staff remains committed to supporting families through every step of securing federal, state and institutional aid. We are happy to walk through the process and do everything possible to make Belmont an affordable, accessible option,” said Harper.
Students who have not filed their FAFSA are still encouraged to do so as federal awards will continue to be made until funds are depleted.
