Belmont University today announced the appointment of Robin E. Mutz, MPPM, BSN, RNC, NEA-BC as Executive Nurse Leader in Residence for the Inman College of Nursing (ICON) Center for Nursing Innovation (CNI), following a 44-year history in nursing leadership. With her experience in health care design and strategic project implementation, she will work to facilitate cross-disciplinary opportunities for healthcare students in healthcare design and architecture.
Mutz recently retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. She has also served as Executive Nurse Director at the Medical University of South Carolina, overseeing the design, development and implementation of a new $385 million, 625,000 sq ft Women's and Children's Hospital. Before moving to South Carolina, she served as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Women's Services and Affiliates at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
ICON aims to support the preparation of residency-graduates to meet expanding workforce demands with an innovative mindset. The addition of a practice expert to the CNI team will help support the college’s efforts to shore up the academic-practice gap that currently exists in nursing.
“We are delighted to have Robin join us to offer insight into the realities of our clinical practice partners and the skills and knowledge necessary to develop the next generation of nursing leaders,” said Dr. Julie Honey, interim dean of the Gordon E. Inman College of Nursing. “To begin, Robin will work closely alongside the graduate nursing team to develop executive leadership courses for the DNP program, but is also eager to support undergraduate nursing and Belmont University as a whole.”
ICON-CNI seeks to unite education, innovation, and healthcare leaders in support of transforming nursing education and hope for the future of healthcare through education research and outreach. Its mission is to cultivate a community of courageous nurse leaders equipped with the skills, knowledge, and innovative mindset necessary to positively impact healthcare outcomes.
The first of its kind in the state of Tennessee, ICON-CNI joins other universities across the country that are working to reimagine the future of nursing—from the classroom to the bedside.
