You can find Belmont alumni peppering the healthcare landscape across the country. These healthcare workers don’t just support their patients; they also love to give back to Belmont and encouraging students who are on the same path.
This fall, seven alumni representing six different careers served on a panel for pre-health students to discuss their professional journeys and career experiences.
The panelists represented several health careers and included
- Iveylee Trump, PA-C
- Dr. Rachel Hicks, OTD
- Dr. Landry Slaughter, PharmD
- Dr. Grace Denny, DNP
- Dr. Alyson Singh, MD
- Dr. Angel Brothers, DVM
- Dr. Justin Smith, MD
All panelists are graduates from Belmont Science programs and want to support current students. Biology Alumna Iveylee Trump (2008) said, “Belmont has such a great reputation, and if I can have a small part in educating and preparing the next generation, then I will seize it.”
Biology Alumna Dr. Angel Pierson (2016) agreed, stating, “While I attended Belmont, I formed relationships with the faculty and my colleagues that shaped my career and who I am as a doctor. It’s important for me to pay that forward! I love helping Belmont students find what profession suits them. The medical profession is extremely diverse, and the opportunities at Belmont are unique to help you explore them.”
Students commented that it was helpful to hear from alumni who could relate to where they were in their journeys and could offer a diversity of perspectives about the range of possibilities in the healthcare field. Some students have even changed their career interests because of the impact of this panel.
Belmont’s Pre-Health Club helped to host the panel and Club President Zeen Tovi is now able to identify her career goals. “This panel of diverse health professionals broadened my outlook on the healthcare team,” she commented. “I was introduced to the PA profession by an alumni PA, and I got to ask so many questions. By interacting with this PA, it sparked my journey into researching the career.”
Trump has had several students shadow her in her dermatology clinic since speaking on the panel. “I like hosting students when my schedule allows because I remember trying to find preceptors and figure out my path in college. It was so intimidating! And finding a good preceptor was such a blessing at the time,” she explained. “I am excited to be an alumna of such a prestigious and growing university.”
