Belmont University’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) students went over and above at the Extra Mile in Nashville Tennessee on Oct. 21. The students volunteered to help the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee (DSAMT) with event happenings from t-shirt handouts to bounce houses. They also represented Belmont at the Occupational Therapy table with Occupational Therapy Professor, Dr. Natalie Michaels. Belmont students created scratch paper art drawings with the children, while educating parents about the benefits of occupational therapy. They also informed parents about the programs available in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Belmont University.
The Nashville Extra Mile is a yearly event to inform the public about Down Syndrome and celebrate children with Down Syndrome and their families. Students working with Dr. Michaels this year included Nina Cinca, Kenzie Hendley, Megan Tenery, Carly Busby, Anna Rosenberger, Kat Livingston, Madison Wasylewski, Karissa Varner, Dani Olsen, Tori Knox, Haley Fuller and Alandry Vise.
