Belmont Professor of Management Information Systems Dr. Gary Garrison and the Belmont Data Collaborative (BDC) were recently announced as finalists for the 15th annual Greater Nashville Technology Council (NTC) Awards. NTC hosts this event each year to recognize outstanding leaders, trailblazing initiatives and innovative corporations in Nashville’s tech community.
Garrison is a finalist in the Tech Educator of the Year category. At Belmont, he is the department chair of Business Systems & Analytics (BSA).
“Being named a finalist for the Technology Educator of the Year by the Nashville Technology Council is an honor,” Garrison said. “However, it’s more of a reflection of the hard work and dedication that is representative of the entire Belmont ecosystem, revealing not only personal commitment but also the efforts and achievements of our students, faculty, staff, administration and BSA Advisory Board members who continue to support the belief that technology and analytics are vital for shaping the future.”
BDC, a Data For Good category finalist, established a Data Warehouse in March 2022 that gathered and analyzed public data surrounding Nashville’s hypertension crisis. When the project began, NashvilleHealth reported that nearly one-third of adults in Nashville had been diagnosed as hypertensive. The collaborative Hypertension project identified health inequities that indicated the illness had a disproportionate impact in minority communities. In May, BDC announced Project WELL, a new health equity collaboration focused on mental health.
Three finalists were selected in 15 categories. This year, the NTC Awards will be held Feb. 29 at the Fisher Center for Performing Arts at Belmont University where the winners will be announced.
