Vision:
The Department of Residence Life at Belmont University is committed to fostering a Christian community that encourages students and staff to focus on personal and spiritual growth, as well as individual, communal and civil responsibility within an educational and purposeful living experience.

Mutual Respect
In an increasingly diverse world, it is essential that students appreciate the value of diversity in a community. The rich residential community offers exposure to a wide variety of people, perspectives and personalities and develops residents' regard for individual differences and their ability to participate effectively in the larger community.
Broad Interdependence
Students' success in the university and the world beyond depends upon their ability to collaborate effectively with others. The community living experience quickly illuminates residents' interdependence and nurtures their spirit of cooperation and interpersonal skills.

Residence Life prepares residents to make the challenging decisions of their collegiate and post-collegiate experiences by providing authentic choices and realistic accountability during their residency.

By actively supporting residents' academic achievements and providing countless opportunities for personal and interpersonal growth, Belmont's living-learning community broadens residents' understanding of where learning occurs and how it is applied.
Sustainability Initiatives
As part of Belmont’s environmental sustainability initiative, the Office of Residence Life has implemented a variety of sustainable practices. These energy-efficient practices help us keep utility costs down, and thus keep living costs down, while also protecting the environment. Our sustainable efforts include replacing light bulbs with CFL (compact fluorescent light) light bulbs, providing recycling stations in each residential complex and exploring new technology options to reduce our carbon footprint.
Energy Conservation Efforts
Below are steps we ask all on-campus students to take in order to contribute to our conservation efforts.
- Refrigerators purchased and used by students in on-campus residence halls are required to be Energy Star rated and less than 4-cubic feet and 1.8 amps.
- Residence Life uses CFL light bulbs and asks students to use either CFL or LED light bulbs in their personal appliances.
- Residence Life requires students to use Smart Strip surge protectors, should they choose to use a surge protector. These devices conserve energy by automatically shutting off power to devices that are not in use.
Other Sustainability Initiatives
Below is a list of other sustainability initiatives in practice at Belmont University.
- Recycling is provided in every residential complex. Pieces of university furniture in our apartment complexes are made from recycled wood.
- The Office of Residence Life supports students’ individual sustainability initiatives through The Sustainability Grant for Students.
- The Office of Residence Life has a Sustainability Committee tasked with raising student awareness of environmentally-friendly practices throughout the academic year.
