Biography

Dr. Timothy Schoenfeld joined the faculty at Belmont University in the fall of 2017 after a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology and Neuroscience from Princeton University in 2012. He teaches Learning and Conditioning and Physiological Psychology primarily but also elective courses in Neural Plasticity, Psychopharmacology, Hormones and Behavior, and Psychological Writing. Dr. Schoenfeld researches how neurogenesis and other plastic mechanisms within the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex of rats mediate stress and mood disorders (models of depression, anxiety, and PTSD) and behavioral flexibility. He’s interested in how exercise and nutrition can improve these areas.

He is a distance runner (see you in the mornings on the roads around campus!), an avid tennis player, and loves traveling and exploring the outdoors with his family.
