Biography
Dr. Robbie Matz joined the Department of Sport Administration as an Assistant Professor of Sport Administration in the Fall of 2021. He earned a Ph.D. in Kinesiology (Sport Management & Policy) from University of Georgia with graduate certificates in Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies and Nonprofit Management, an M.A. in Kinesiology (Sport Management) from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Sport Management from University of California, Santa Barbara.
Dr. Matz’s research interests include amateur and professional golf, with an emphasis on women’s golf. He is currently working on research related to how community is built and sustained around women’s professional golf, which included collecting data on site at the AIG Women’s Open in St. Andrews, Scotland. Dr. Matz has published research in high impact journals such as Journal of Business Research, Sport Management Review, and Telematics and Informatics, and has presented research at sport management conferences around the world including Europe, Canada, and Australia. Prior to joining the faculty at Belmont University, he taught at California State University, Long Beach and University of California, Irvine. He also has a variety of industry experience, including working at the Southern California Golf Association and as a Senior Evaluator for a research and evaluation consulting firm.
Dr. Matz enjoys serving the Nashville community through volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and fostering dogs through the Nashville Humane Society. Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Matz enjoys playing traveling, playing golf, and spending time with his wife Amber, and their dog, Schmee.
