Biography
With a multifaceted career, Rick has a diverse professional and academic background that includes television production, video production, multimedia production, live event production, and multi-camera streaming production.
Rick’s professional career includes working in television production, video production, sports production, and engineering. He has worked at NBC network affiliate stations in Wichita, Kansas, in Waterloo, Iowa, and for the Iowa Television Network in Big Ten Sports production.
Rick’s academic career includes teaching at Concord University in West Virginia, the University of Northern Iowa, and Belmont University in Tennessee.
Beyond broadcasting, he has dedicated over 20 years to church media production including multi-camera directing and engineering. For more than 17 years he has specialized in in-house sports media production including directing and engineering. Rick is skilled in multi-camera streaming for live events, as well and single and multi camera television and video production. He is a seasoned expert in delivering high-quality audio and video content across various platforms.
Rick is deeply committed to learning and staying at the forefront of technological advancements. He leverages this knowledge to effectively train and educate his students, equipping them with the tools to succeed in a rapidly evolving profession. His teaching philosophy is centered on the belief that the best way for students to prepare for careers in the media industry is through hands-on training and real-world experiences. He is committed to providing students with professional production opportunities, where they can directly apply the technical and creative concepts they learn in the classroom.
Outside of his professional life, Rick has a passion for all things water, including lakes and oceans. He enjoys white water canoeing, sailing, motor boating, and ocean cruising. His favorite cruising destinations include the glaciers of Alaska, the fjords of Norway, Bermuda, and the British Isles.
