Madeline Bridges

Biography

Dr. Bridges received her doctorate in Music Education from the University of Alabama, Master of Music Education from George Peabody College of Education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Shorter College in Rome, GA. She served as the Belmont University School of Music Associate Dean for Academic Studies for 15 years and is currently Professor of Music Education in the School of Music.

Dr. Bridges is Director Emeritus of the Nashville Children's Choir, a multi-level community choir program in residence at Belmont.  Bridges is also a frequent clinician for choral music festivals for elementary and middle school treble choirs and a conference leader in the area of general, choral, and early childhood music. She has taught music and music education in classrooms from kindergarten through the graduate level. 

Active in many professional organizations, she is a past-president of Tennessee Music Education Association and Choristers Guild International.  Articles and curriculum material by Dr. Bridges have appeared in Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Therapy, Quarterly Journal of Music Teaching and Learning, General Music Today, Tennessee Musician, The Chorister, Young Musicians Magazine, and The Music Leader.  Dr. Bridges' primary research interests are in the areas of music teacher education and elementary choral music participation.  She is the co-author/compiler of How to Lead Children's Choirs (Convention Press), Sing Together, Children (Choristers Guild), and Book of Church Songs and Spirituals (GIA Publications).
