Biography

Dr. Katherine Mitsouras was born and raised in Athens, Greece in a family of physicians. She received her ScB in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with Honors from Brown University, and her PhD in Biological Chemistry from the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she studied eukaryotic gene regulation. She subsequently completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Human Genetics at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she trained in microarray technology development and collaborated with Agilent Technologies to develop microarrays to detect tissue-specific alternatively spliced mRNA isoforms in human cells. Prior to joining the faculty at the Frist College of Medicine, she held a faculty position at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences in Southern California, where she taught medical biochemistry and medical genetics in the pre-clinical curriculum, was a passionate student mentor, student club and research advisor. Her research focus is in the area of medical education.

In her spare time, Katherine enjoys lap swimming, hiking, riding her bike, cooking all kinds of different cuisines and volunteering for feline Trap Neuter and Release programs. She is the proud parent of a two-legged son, and four four-legged felines.
