Biography
Dr. Fitzgerald born and raised in the Music City, Nashville, TN, was educated in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. While matriculating through MNPS, Joe was a scholar, student athlete, participant in the arts and acknowledged as ‘most talented’ among his peers.
After graduating with honors from High School, Dr. Fitzgerald received a Bachelor of Arts Degree—Economics and History with Licensure, Math concentration—from Maryville College. Joe then pursued and completed advanced degrees—Master of Education and Doctor of Education— from Middle Tennessee State University. Joe’s areas of study are Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, Assessment, Learning and School Improvement.
Dr. Fitzgerald has been privileged to operate within his vocation—education—for over 20 years. During his tenure Joe has served in the following capacities: Secondary Teacher, Middle School Teacher, College Instructor, Adjunct Professor, Education Coordinator, Math Specialist, Data Specialist, Family Engagement Specialist, Classroom Management Specialist, Assistant Director of Curriculum for the Belmont Data Collaborative and currently an Assistant Professor of Education and Adult Learning at Belmont University.
Dr. Fitzgerald is an educator with expertise in cognitive engagement, facilitated learning, instructional strategies, classroom management, higher education leadership, and educational assessment with an emphasis on school improvement. He is a trusted and respected thought leader and frequent speaker in the education industry. With a notable zeal for engaging learners and over two decades of practiced pedagogy and andragogy, Dr. Fitzgerald champions the Belmont Data Collaborative’s “Data for all” ethos by establishing ‘the data mindset’ on Belmont’s campus through practical researched based instructional strategies.
Joe thoroughly enjoys singing, worshiping, cooking, traveling, and spending uninterrupted time with his wife, April and their 5 precious treasures. Joe serves as the Director of Fine Arts and Christian Education for his church.
