Biography
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Jason Jedlička joined the Belmont faculty in 2023, bringing a wealth of experience in practical musicianship, fostering intellectual curiosity, and mentoring diverse bodies of students. He received his PhD from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington, with a dissertation on analytical and interpretive issues in the recent music of Steve Reich. Dr. Jedlička has presented this and other research on Reich’s music nationally and internationally.
His broader teaching and research interests include analysis and performance of minimalist music more generally, historically informed study of Renaissance and Baroque repertoires, and production techniques in commercial music. In addition, Dr. Jedlička has a strong interest in audio technologies, and in the summer of 2013, studied electronic music at the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique in Paris. More recently, he served as the sound engineer at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Northeast Ohio.
Dr. Jedlička has composed in a variety of styles and has extensive experience as a pianist and accompanist. He has also served as musical director and conductor for various ensembles and theatrical organizations.
Prior to his appointment at Belmont, Dr. Jedlička taught at several institutions throughout the Midwest, including Indiana University East and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
