Biography

Henry W. Smiley is an Assistant Professor of Music and the director of the country vocal ensemble, Southbound, at Belmont University. He has been a part of the School of Music faculty since 1998.

Mr. Smiley received a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts in Music History and Theory from Emory and Henry College. Prior to Belmont, he was a Professor of Music at Walter State Community College and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Tennessee. Mr. Smiley has composed and/or arranged works for diverse ensembles and orchestras, including works performed at Belmont's annual President's Concert and Christmas at Belmont concerts. Other past experience includes vocal coach, arranger and producer for the Opryland Production Group as well as songwriting, vocal arranging and singing for studio recording sessions. He has published several choral anthems and other services music with Word, Broadman, Purifoy, and other publishers.

Mr. Smiley has been a volunteer with Child Abuse Prevention of Tennessee, and is a member of Donelson Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN.
