Biography

Dr. Shankel is the Associate Dean for Graduate Nursing. She oversees the Healthcare Leadership and the Family Nurse Practitioner tracks of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Dr. Shankel earned her B.A. in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Religion and Philosophy from Greenville College in 2001, followed by an MSN at Vanderbilt University, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Shankel came to Belmont in 2008 as an adjunct instructor and has served in various leadership roles, including University Senate President. She is passionate about how interprofessional teams can influence healthcare systems and improve health outcomes for patients and populations.
