Belmont Adjunct Music Instructor Emily Gaskill recently retired from full-time teaching at Columbia State Community College as an Associate Professor of Music. During her tenure at Columbia State, Ms. Gaskill taught class and individual piano, voice, Music Appreciation and directed the collegiate choir. She designed several courses at Columbia State, most notably an online Music Appreciation course. She had vast experience as a piano accompanist for the choir, vocalists and visiting artists.
Prior to her full-time teaching position, Ms. Gaskill taught as an adjunct instructor at both Belmont University and Columbia State. Previous Belmont courses included teaching Class Piano and Arts for the Educator. Columbia State courses taught as an adjunct included individual and class piano, voice, Music Appreciation and Music Theory.
Ms. Gaskill received her Bachelor of Music Education degree at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi and her Master of Music Education degree from Belmont University. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy and practiced as a clinical therapist for many years in a variety of medical settings.
Besides teaching part time on the collegiate level, Ms. Gaskill teaches private piano in her home. She is active in her church, participating in outreach missions and in the music ministry. She provides assistance with choral direction and piano accompaniment for the chancel choir.
Ms. Gaskill welcomes the opportunity to teach at Belmont, a place, she says, is an exciting environment for students to realize their potential and to heighten their passion for music.
