Biography
Dr. David Herrera is an Associate Professor at the Mike Curb College of Music Business and Entertainment at Belmont University. Originally hailing from the small town of La Union, New Mexico, Dr. Herrera majored in Music Education at UNM (Albuquerque), before setting out for Los Angeles to become a commercial trumpet player. In California, David worked with local high school and college bands as a music and marching clinician where he performed professionally with various jazz ensembles and Latin groups, eventually serving as a seasonal band leader/performer at Disneyland and Disney World. This led to the opportunity to travel the world as a lead trumpet on cruise ships for many years.
He left the musical world to return to university studies and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at Belmont University, then completed his Masters of Business Administration at the Massey School, followed by his Ph.D. in management and organization at Capella University. He has worked professionally in concert promotion, directed Acklen Records (a student driven record company), developed indiebandhub.com, and pursued experiential courses for both Record Company Operations and Concert Promotions. His area of research is in social media engagement, record label label operations, and learning organizations. He is now involved in developing the live music concentration at the CEMB college and occasionally takes a travel class to study cruise ship entertainment operations.
