Biography
Dr. Crystal Hendron, EdD 20', has worked in the teaching and learning field for the past 25 years. She is a seasoned and passionate educator who loves maximizing the success of adult learners and seeing them thrive as they pursue their educational goals and develop their professional identities. Dr. Hendron has been an active member of the National Medical Education Learning Specialists (MELS) group since 2017. She serves on several MELS leadership committees and is the former Western Region Member-at-Large.
Dr. Hendron joined the Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine in March of 2024 as the Director of Student Success Programs in the Office of Student Affairs and Diversity. The college is welcoming the inaugural class of students in the summer of 2024. Before joining FCOM at Belmont University, Dr. Hendron supported the medical students at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix as a Medical Education Learning Specialist for two years. Before joining U of A COM-P, Dr. Hendron provided learning advisement to students at A.T. Still University (Mesa, AZ campus) for seven years. While there, Dr. Hendron supported students in the School of Osteopathic Medicine Arizona, Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, PT, OT, PA, and Audiology programs. Dr. Hendron provides workshops and individual consultations to medical and health professions students to assist them with their study strategies, allocation of time, testing strategies, and USMLE Step 1 and 2 preparation.
Dr. Hendron assists students in identifying and leveraging their learning success type and is a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator. Dr. Hendron supervised the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Program and recruited and trained over 50 PAL tutors/mentors to maximize student success.
Before working in higher education, Dr. Hendron taught Chemistry, Biology, and Project Lead the Way Pre-Health science courses at the secondary level and was an adjunct biology professor for the Maricopa County Community College District. Dr. Hendron became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Chemistry in 2009. She earned a Bachelor of Science (Zoology/Animal Biology) and a Master of Education (Educational Leadership) from Arizona State University. Dr. Hendron obtained her Doctorate of Education in Health Professions degree from A.T. Still University College of Graduate Health Studies.
