Charmion Gustke

Biography

Charmion Gustke’s classes, on campus and abroad, focus on the interdisciplinary practices of writing, reading, and social action. As the Coordinator of the First Year Seminar program, she works across campus to build effective strategies to enhance the intellectual life of first year of students. Her scholarly interests include Marxism, Transcendentalism and Reform, and the intersection of race and class in the work of Willa Cather. She is committed to community engagement, supporting nonprofit organizations such as Thistle Farms, The Nashville Food Project, and Equal Chance for an Education. Her articles can be found in Cather Studies, The Willa Cather Review, The Saunterer, The Thoreau Society Bulletin, The Palgrave Encyclopedia of Urban Literary Studies, and Resources for American Literary Study.
