Contemporary Art

Explore the transformative world of contemporary art and its impact on society, culture and the global art market.

What is Contemporary Art?

In the post-World War II era, the art world underwent a dramatic transformation. What was once a handful of bohemian enclaves in large Western cities has become a global industry, with artists working in diverse media and exhibiting their work in prestigious museums, galleries and international events.

Contemporary art reflects and shapes the world we live in, addressing critical issues such as originality, multiculturalism, globalization and the intersection of art and politics. By studying contemporary art, you gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, social and economic forces that shape our society.

This course offers a fascinating overview of the contemporary art world, providing insights into the artists, ideas and trends that define this dynamic field – from Andy Warhols, 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans in 1962 to Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian, banana and duct tape, in 2019. Whether you are an aspiring artist, an art professional or simply curious about the world of contemporary art, this course will broaden your perspective and deepen your appreciation for this influential and ever-evolving discipline.
