Personalized education, informed at every level throughout medical school
The Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine faculty designed a curriculum for students to learn clinical reasoning and science, diagnose and treat patients through case-based learning, early and meaningful clinical experiences, and opportunities for experiences in medical research, ethics, health system science, interprofessional teams, and service learning. Frist College of Medicine students will be prepared to excel in their residency program of their choice and become leaders who will help determine the solutions to tomorrow's healthcare challenges.
Curriculum
The Frist College of Medicine's curriculum will thoroughly and consistently emphasize gender, cultural, and other forms of diversity and their impacts on improving health outcomes. With an ultimate goal of training physicians who acknowledge and actively address how biases affect patient care, the curriculum will build from orientation through graduation to develop culturally competent physicians who are aware of bias in themselves and their peers, teachers, and institutions.
Interprofessional Education
Medical students will learn how to function collaboratively in healthcare teams. Reflecting on the mission, vision, and values and an emphasis on interprofessional education, the FCoM will emphasize high communication standards for students as they communicate with medical providers in any number of roles. Effective communication across healthcare team members is embedded throughout the MD program. There will be numerous opportunities to demonstrate, practice, and refine this skill set throughout the four years of the curriculum in various exercises, including small group sessions, team interprofessional exercises, formative standardized patient assessments, as well as simulation learning.
BelTech
As part of the BelTech program, FCoM student will receive an iPad for their use during medical school. Students will use their iPads across their medical education journey.
